چکیده

Rural communities rely heavily on chickens to meet their socio-economic needs. However, predators, diseases, and parasites deprive them of nutrients required for sustained growth development. A cross-sectional survey key informant interviews were conducted in selected villages Limpopo Province, South Africa find out the predators prevalent indigenous chickens. Medicinal plants commonly used control as well household heads’ views preservation rural food security investigated. Qualitative data gathered through was analysed thematically using Atlas Ti version 8.1.4 while IBM Statistical Package Social Sciences 25.0 compute descriptive statistics carry cross-tabulations quantitative data. Approximately, 72 % respondents reported that predation affected chicks with hens at (67 %) cocks (63 following respective order. Snakes such king cobra (phakhu phakhu), birds martial eagle (Goni), wild animals, especially genet cat (tsimba) predominant predators. Among commonest parasites, fleas [Dermanyssus gallinae (thatha)] mites [Siphonaptera (magomani)] predominant. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolour) aloe (Aloe vera) most common medicinal parasites. It is, therefore, recommended farmers extension officers alike, consider profile major medical plants, knowledge sustainability enhanced security.

Parasites as predators: unifying natural enemy ecology.

Parasitism and predation have long been considered analogous interactions. Yet by and large, ecologists continue to study parasite-host and predator-prey ecology separately. Here we discuss strengths and shortcomings of the parasite-as-predator analogy and its potential to provide new insights into both fields. Developments in predator-prey ecology, such as temporal risk allocation and associat...

Gastrointestinal parasites of free-range chickens.

The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and intensity of parasitic gastrointestinal infections in free-range chickens from the West Pomerania province. Experimental material for the study was taken from 10 farms. Breeds raised in farms participating in the study included miniature chickens called Polish Lilliputians and Green- legged Partridge. A total of 104 samples of faeces were...

Supervised Control of Insects utilizes parasites and predators and makes chemical control more efficient

Supervised control of field crop insect pests was first developed on the northwest side of the San Joaquin Valley. For three years it has been in successful operation in connection with the control of the alfalfa caterpillar, and has been expanded to the control of other pests on alfalfa and to pests of cotton. Supervised control has not been developed for such crops as deciduous and citrus fru...

Fish farms, parasites, and predators: implications for salmon population dynamics.

For some salmon populations, the individual and population effects of sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) transmission from sea cage salmon farms is probably mediated by predation, which is a primary natural source of mortality of juvenile salmon. We examined how sea lice infestation affects predation risk and mortality of juvenile pink (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) and chum (O. keta) salmon, and dev...

Natural predators and parasites of British mosquitoes – a review

This paper reviews the recorded predators of all life stages of British mosquitoes and assesses their relative effectiveness in limiting mosquito populations. Predators vary markedly in the different habitats that immature and adult mosquitoes frequent, with representatives from at least six insect orders, thirteen arachnid families, as well as crustaceans, amphibians, fish, birds and mammals. ...
